Our Company Patentwerk is an internationally operating Dutch patent agency, which serves both Dutch and foreign clients, including a number of international enterprises quoted on the international stock exchanges. We also act on behalf of several non-European patent offices. Our patent attorneys have University degrees in all major fields of technology:
mechanics, electronics, chemistry, process engineering, civil engineering,
aerospace engineering, medical engineering and life sciences. We are therefore capable of handling all types of inventions. Patentwerk is the only Dutch Patent agency meeting the ISO 9001 standard. Use is made here of CPI software to guarantee effective administrative processes. Patentwerk can be of your assistance in drafting patent applications and prosecute European patent applications up to grant. We are also qualified to act on a National level in the Netherlands and Belgium. Other competences of the specialists of Patentwerk are litigation, oppositions, appeals and assisting clients when entering into licence agreements and valuing patent portfolios.
Patentwerk is not only engaged in patent activities, but also takes the time to properly inform its clients and involve them in all relevant procedures. One example of this is the support provided to a number of clients in the management of their large patent portfolios. We can also place our in-house legal expertise at your disposal. Patents in Europe
The Netherlands are of special interest as a base for
your European patent activities:
• As most Dutch have an excellent command of English
and typically also German and French, communication runs smoothly.
• The infrastructure for Intellectual Property (IP)
services is well developed as the Netherlands houses several multinationals
that have a very active patent policy (companies like Philips Electronics,
Shell, Unilever). The quality of Dutch patent attorneys is of a high standard;
from all the candidates that participate in the qualification exams of the
European Patent Office in recent years the Dutch candidates are among the top
10% performers. Patentwerk has close contacts with and works for several
multinationals and we are also involved in the official national training
programs for the qualification of patent attorneys.
• The Netherlands as a country houses a part of the
European Patent Office (EPO), handling approximately 40% of all the work of the
European Patent Office. Patentwerk is located within a one hour drive from the
EPO in The Hague.
• Infringement litigation in the Netherlands is rapid
and relatively cheap compared to other European countries with a known high
quality legal system like England and Germany. For average cases, it is not
unusual for the Dutch Patent Court to provide a provisional judgement within
two months, and a final judgement within half a year, providing a rapid first
assessment of a case before proceeding in other countries. Patentwerk has
extended experience in infringement litigation proceedings.
